FCTA Launches Mass Rabies Vaccination

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has mobilised veterinary and animal health personnel for a two-week mass rabies vaccination exercise across the six Area Councils of the Territory.

The Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat (ARDS) directed the veterinary officers to maintain professionalism and adhere strictly to ethical standards throughout the campaign.

The Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Dandam Karnak, who represented the ARDS Mandate Secretary, Comrade Abdullahi Suleiman Ango, gave the charge while addressing veterinary and animal health officials at the FCT Veterinary Clinic in Nyanya.

Karnak commended the officers for their commitment to the public health intervention, stressing that discipline and professionalism would be critical to the success of the vaccination campaign.

He said the administration was fully committed to supporting the exercise as veterinary teams move across communities in the six Area Councils to ensure widespread coverage.

According to him, the vaccination is part of efforts to protect residents from the deadly rabies disease and must reach every community targeted under the exercise.

Karnak particularly warned veterinary personnel against charging pet owners for the vaccination, stressing that the exercise is completely free of charge.

He said the FCTA is bearing the full cost of the campaign and that no officer is authorised to demand or accept payment from members of the public.

The Director warned that any personnel found collecting money from pet owners would face disciplinary action.

He urged the veterinary teams to conduct themselves professionally while carrying out the exercise, noting that their conduct would be crucial to building public confidence in the campaign and achieving its public health objectives.
