New Delta CP Vows Data-Driven Approach To Fighting Crime

The newly appointed Commissioner of Police deployed to the Delta Police Command, CP Samuel Erale has pledged to utilise data-driven strategies to address the peculiarities of crime across the state.

Erale’s commitment, captured in his inaugural address on Tuesday, followed his assumption as the 25th police principal in the state.

His promise to protect lives and property was encapsulated in his mission statement: to provide intelligence-led, community-oriented, and professionally coordinated policing that tackles crime and strengthens public confidence in the Force.

Cp Erale acknowledged that while Delta remains one of the nation’s economic hubs, its critical position in the Niger Delta Sub-region demands intensified operations against crimes and emerging threats in the state.

Crimes including kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery, cybercrime, violent threats and oil-related crimes have continued to ravage and challenge the security architecture of the state.

Part of Erale’s plans to fortify existing policing strategies, “is to conduct a comprehensive review of existing operational strategies with a view to identifying what works, what does not and what needs to change.”

Relatively, the new CP intends to “shift largely from reactive policing to proactive, intelligence-driven, and technology-enabled crime prevention.

“To establish measurable performance indicators for all the command Tactical teams and restructure their activities and operations.

“To adapt continuous strategies to emerging crime patterns through data analysis, intelligence assessment, technology and regular training.”

Furthermore, the CP plans to enforce discipline to police rules and ethics, public service rules, subject to the rule of law while promoting professionalism and respect for human rights.

He pledged zero tolerance for corruption, extortion and ethical misconduct, and to reward officers who demonstrate integrity and exceptional service.
