This is coming days after the Lagos State government announced the ban of the usage and distribution of plastics across the state.

The Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Iziaq Salako who disclosed this at the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency’s Second Chemical Handler and Users workshop on Tuesday, stated that the ministry will be seeking approval from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to ban the use of the plastics in the government offices.

“The days ahead, we shall be presenting a memo at the Federal Executive Council praying FEC to approve the banning of single use plastics in all MDAs of the Federal Government of Nigeria,” he said.

Salako also called on ministries of environments in Nigeria to immediately adopt the policy of banning single use plastics in all their offices and operations as a minimum symbolic demonstration and preparation for the inevitable ban of single use plastics in the country.

The minister noted that the federal government is aware of the several obstacles to the implementation of a circular economy in Nigeria, adding that despite the challenges, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration is resolute in achieving a clean circular and buoyant economy for the nation.
