NSCDC Nabs Two Over Railway, Copper Wire Vandalism In Kano

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has arrested two suspected vandals over alleged vandalism of railway and electrical infrastructure in Kano State.

The State Commandant, Mohammed Hassan-Agalama, made the disclosure on Monday in Kano.

Hassan-Agalama said the suspects were arrested in separate intelligence-led operations carried out at Panshekara in Kumbotso Local Government Area (LGA)and Yankaba in Nassarawa Local Government Area of the state.

He identified the suspects as Gath Gamaliel, 22, from Zango, Kaduna State, and Salisu Jibrin, 31, a resident of Kurna in Dala LGA of Kano State.

He said Gamaliel was arrested with 17 vandalised railway clips at Panshekara, while Jibrin, suspected to be a receiver of stolen property, was apprehended at Yankaba when he allegedly arrived to collect 60 kilogrammes of vandalised copper wire.

The commandant said the recovered items were believed to have been illegally removed from public infrastructure.

He said the arrests underscored the command’s commitment to combating vandalism and other economic crimes threatening national development.

Hassan-Agalama said investigations were ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the suspected criminal syndicate.

He noted that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The commandant warned individuals involved in vandalising public infrastructure to desist, stressing that the command would continue to track down offenders.

He also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security agencies to help protect critical national assets and infrastructure.
