Over 600 US Soldiers Wounded Since Iran War, Pentagon Says

The Pentagon has reported that 624 US service members have been wounded since the beginning of the war with Iran in February 2026, according to an updated casualty database released over the weekend.

The latest figures from the Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS) show 417 service members were wounded under Operation Epic Fury, the initial phase of the conflict launched on 28 February, and a further 207 under a new “Overseas Operations” category tracking casualties recorded from 7 July onward.

The overall US death toll in the conflict stands at 18 service members.

The update follows scrutiny after earlier revisions to the casualty figures drew criticism from lawmakers and media organisations over apparent discrepancies, even as reports of continued Iranian attacks persisted.

The fighting intensified after the collapse of a ceasefire, with nearly two weeks of nightly exchanges in July before a recent pause in major operations.

The Pentagon created the new “Overseas Operations” category to separate casualties recorded from 7 July from those reported under Operation Epic Fury.

The updated figures have renewed debate in Congress over transparency in war reporting and the scope of US military engagement in the Middle East.

Democratic senators had previously called for a full accounting after the casualty database temporarily showed lower numbers of reported deaths and injuries.

The conflict began on 28 February when the United States launched Operation Epic Fury against Iran.

A ceasefire was agreed in April and formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding in June, but sporadic violence and retaliatory actions have continued despite the agreement.

Pentagon officials have not released a detailed breakdown of the injuries or the specific incidents that contributed to the latest casualty figures.

The updated data comes amid continued scrutiny of the Pentagon’s casualty reporting and the broader US military campaign in the Middle East.
