Four Arrested In London On Suspicion Of Assisting Iran’s Intelligence Service

British counter-terrorism police have arrested four men, including one Iranian national and three dual British-Iranian citizens, on suspicion of assisting Iran’s foreign intelligence service. The arrests are linked to the alleged surveillance of locations and individuals connected to Jewish communities in London.

The Metropolitan Police said the operation took place shortly after 1:00 a.m. at addresses in Barnet, Watford, and Harrow. The men detained were aged 22, 40, 52, and 55. Searches continue at properties in Watford, Barnet, and Wembley.

All four men were detained under Section 3 of the National Security Act 2023, which targets foreign interference and espionage. At the Harrow location, six additional men were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All ten remain in custody.

Commander Helen Flanagan, head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, said the arrests are part of a long running investigation to disrupt malign activity. She urged the public, particularly the Jewish community, to remain vigilant and report any concerns.

The Community Security Trust, a charity supporting Britain’s Jewish community, thanked police and said security remains strong.

The National Security Act was introduced to counter foreign interference. No charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing. Iranian authorities have historically denied involvement in such activities abroad.
