Fleeing Driver, 4 Others Arrested Over Stolen Trailer In Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a fleeing trailer driver and four other suspects over the alleged theft and dismantling of a stolen trailer in what investigators described as a suspected “trailer-dismantling syndicate.”

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying detectives from the Ifo Divisional Headquarters made the arrests after an intelligence-led investigation.

Babaseyi said the case began after the trailer owner reported that his driver, Temitope Omotayo Odulaja, 47, disappeared with the vehicle on June 6, 2026, and could not be reached despite repeated efforts to recover it.

He said detectives, led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Olabisi Kamorudeen, deployed technical intelligence that led to the driver’s arrest in Ikorodu, Lagos State, on July 24, 2026.

“The suspect thereafter provided useful information that advanced the investigation,” Babaseyi said.

The police said the investigation led detectives to Ijebu-Ode on July 25, where they arrested Segun Suleiman, 27; Haruna Olaogun, 49; Jimoh Wasiu, 42; and Quazzim Suleiman, 49 at different locations over their alleged roles in the crime.

Preliminary findings indicated that the stolen trailer was dismantled shortly after its theft, with its parts allegedly sold. Detectives recovered the trailer head and other components, while photographs of the dismantled vehicle were taken as evidence.

Babaseyi said investigators are working to recover the remaining parts of the trailer, identify other members of the suspected syndicate and establish the full scope of its operations.

He added that the suspects would be charged in court if found culpable at the end of the investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the detectives for what he described as a breakthrough against organised vehicle theft.

“The arrest of the fleeing trailer driver, the subsequent arrest of his accomplices, the recovery of parts of the stolen trailer, and the uncovering of the suspected trailer-dismantling syndicate underscore the Command’s unwavering commitment to intelligence-led policing,” the police spokesperson quoted the commissioner as saying.

Ojajuni also urged transport operators, fleet owners, logistics companies and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the police.
