Kwankwaso’s Defection: ADC Accuses APC Of Plot To Destabilise Party

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating a plot to destabilise the party following the defection of former Kano state Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

In a statement on Wednesday, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi disclosed that agents of the APC had previously attempted to pressure the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) into taking illegal action against the party.

“After meeting a brick wall with INEC, they have now changed tactics, but the objectives remain the same,” Abdullahi said.

He revealed that a public protest allegedly sponsored by a “particularly notorious minister,” is being planned in Abuja on Thursday, 2nd April noting that the protest is designed to create a false impression of widespread dissatisfaction within ADC ranks.

“The plan is simple: a paid crowd, posturing as aggrieved party members, will take to the streets demanding ‘David Mark Must Go.’ This, they hope, will create ‘public pressure’ on the INEC Chairman to magically upgrade and recognise an individual who resigned his position and was subsequently expelled from the ADC, to the position of National Chairman of a party he no longer belongs to,” Abdullahi explained.

He described the alleged scheme as a desperate move by the APC to hijack the leadership of what he called “the only viable opposition party left in the country.”

Abdullahi accused the ruling party of being afraid of not just their momentum but what happens when the “Nigerian people start paying attention and begin to believe that change is possible.”

However, the ADC reassured Nigerians of its commitment to lawful conduct, saying the party will resist any unlawful attempts through all necessary and legal means.

Abdullahi also appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene and rein in his enforcers before the situation escalates further.
