Musa’s Appointment Signals Stronger, Unified Security Response – Sokoto Govt
The Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State on Security Matters, Col. Ahmed Usman (rtd), has described the appointment of former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa (rtd), as Minister of Defence as a major turning point in Nigeria’s battle against insurgency, banditry, and other security threats.
General Musa was appointed a few days ago and was confirmed by the National Assembly during the week after receiving President Bola Tinubu’s correspondence concerning the appointment.
He retired a few weeks ago as Chief of Defence Staff.
The Sokoto Government said that General Musa is assuming office at a critical time when Nigeria requires experienced and decisive hands to restore stability across troubled regions.
He congratulated the new minister, saying his elevation was a well-deserved recognition of his exceptional service, proven leadership, and unwavering commitment to national security
“With his vast operational knowledge and strategic military experience, General Musa is coming into the job with a deep understanding of the country’s security architecture, this gives Nigerians renewed hope for a more coordinated and effective response to insurgency and banditry.”

Col. Usman expressed confidence that the defence minister’s track record, particularly his role in leading joint operations against terrorism would translate into revitalised synergy among the armed forces and other security agencies.
He emphasized the need for the new minister to prioritise intelligence-led operations, boost troop morale, and embrace modern security technologies capable of countering evolving criminal tactics.

He assured the readiness of the Sokoto State Government to collaborate closely with the Federal Ministry of Defence in efforts to safeguard lives and property, adding that Sokoto state government is committed to supporting federal initiatives aimed at restoring peace, especially in communities ravaged by banditry.
Col. Usman concluded his message by praying for divine guidance and wisdom for the new minister, expressing optimism that his appointment marks the beginning of a more promising chapter in Nigeria’s security landscape.
