The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ondo State Sector Command, says no fewer than 25,324 traffic offences were committed, while 24,693 offenders were arrested between January and December 2025 across the state.
Dr Samuel Ibitoye, the FRSC State Sector Commander, disclosed this on Tuesday in Akure.
He said the offenders were arrested for offences comprising of speed violations, dangerous driving, seat belt violation, overloading, excessive smoke emission, among others.
Ibitoye, who said 22,482 traffic offenders were arrested with 23,176 offences committed in 2024, explained that the increase in the number of people arrested in 2025 was due to the command’s vigorous enforcement on the roads.
The sector commander explained that the successes recorded were with the intentions to reduce the road traffic crashes, especially on the highways across the state.

“In 2025, we doubled our efforts and this reflected in an increase in the number of people arrested and offences recorded through the enforcement.
“This was done not only through our patrol activities but also our mobile courts where a sitting magistrate gives instant judgement.
“When a vehicle is overloaded and not cautious, it can constitute a road hazard and lead to road crashes.
“If a driver is speeding excessively and not arrested or cautioned, definitely, such a driver speeds to kill himself, to kill some other occupants and other road users around.
“So, our impact on the road and intention was not just to arrest alone, but we want motorists to have a change of mind and change of altitude.

“Moreover, if the people do the needful, it will decrease the increasing rate of crashes in Ondo State and it’s environs,” Ibitoye said.
He, therefore, reiterated the command’s commitment to more enforcement, advocacy and network with the adjoining commands to ensure people transacted their businesses without fear of being killed or injured.
The sector commander called on road users, especially drivers and passengers, to take road safety as their own business, personal way of life and shared responsibility.
“As a driver, remember that if you are speeding and caught, you will be booked for speed violation. If you drive dangerously, you will be booked for dangerous driving.
“Driving without use of seat belt will be booked for seat belt violation and parading a vehicle with mechanical deficiency or smoking, definitely, will be booked for excessive smoke emission.
“So, every enforcement will go with sanction because there are rules and if the rules are broken, there are always sanctions that go with it,” he said.
