Policemen were seen stationed at strategic places to enforce the restriction of movement. Men of the Amotekun Corps were also seen patroling major roads to ensure that there is not breakdown of law and order during the exercise.

The election is being contested by 17 political parties but the All Progressives Congress which is one of the dominant parties in the state does not have candidates in the polls.

The APC had reportedly said it would not participate in the poll at the initial stage because of the suit filed by elected officials of the party.

The Supreme Court eventually ruled in favour of the elected officials and the APC sought to join the contest but the Oyo State Independent National Electoral Commission said it was too late.
