Police Arrest Man For Stealing Goods From Moving Truck In Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has arrested a 47-year-old man, Taiwo Hassan, for allegedly stealing goods from a moving truck in transit from Apapa, Lagos.

According to RRS, its operatives apprehended Hassan around 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, at Costain, while he was loading stolen items from a truck.

The arrest came after continued efforts by the police to dismantle a gang known for stealing cargo from trucks transporting goods out of Lagos at night.

Investigations revealed the suspects would secretly transfer the stolen items into another vehicle without the truck driver knowing.

Recovered from the scene was a Sienna vehicle loaded with stolen items, including 10 cartons of Top Cafe 3-in-1 coffee, seven Littmann Classic II stethoscopes, medical manuals, textbooks, and two pouches of theatre kits.

One of Hassan’s accomplices, identified as Sheriff, escaped when police arrived.

“The suspect’s arrest followed sustained efforts to bust the activities of the gang stealing goods from loaded trucks transiting out of Apapa and Lagos.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that Hassan and his gang specialize in stealing goods from trucks transporting consignments out of Lagos while on transit at night.

“They would load the stolen goods into another vehicle without the knowledge of the truck driver,” RRS said in a statement on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, RRS Commander, CSP Shola Jejeloye, has directed that the suspect be charged to court while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing gang members.
