The Borno State Government has confirmed the rescue of seven students following the suspected Boko Haram attack on Lassa Day Secondary School in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of the state.
The state’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Usman Tar, confirmed the rescue on Monday, following the attack, abduction and killing reported at the school.
Tar said joint operatives of the Nigerian Army, Police and local Civilian Joint Task Force responded to the attack and carried out the rescue operation.
He said the number of abducted students and other victims remains unknown, adding that security operatives are still working to rescue those yet to be found.
“For now, seven of them have been rescued. We cannot confirm their gender yet.
Assessment is still ongoing,” Tar said.

He added that a delegation had been sent to the community to assess the situation and restore confidence among residents.
“We have sent a delegation to the community to assess the situation and build confidence in the minds of the residents,” he added.
The attack occurred on Monday at about 9:00am when suspected Boko Haram terrorists stormed the secondary school in Lassa during the National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations.
The attackers, who were reportedly disguised in army camouflage, arrived on motorcycles and opened fire before abducting some students and women selling within the school premises.
The Borno State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, had earlier confirmed the attack to THE WHISTLER, saying security operatives had responded and more information would be released.
