Tokyo 2025: Amusan Qualifies For 100m Hurdles Semi-Finals

Nigeria’s Queen of the track, Tobi Amusan delivered an impressive performance to qualify for the semi-finals of the women’s 100m hurdles at the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships on Sunday.

Amusan clocked 12.53s to win her heat, beating Devynne Charlton (Bahamas) in 12.69 and Elena Carraro (Italy) in 12.86 to book a spot in the semifinals.

The likes of Olympic champion Masai Russell (USA), reigning world champion Danielle Williams (Jamaica), Dutch hurdler Nadine Visser, as well as Ackera Nugent and Grace Stark, also advanced from their respective heats.

Another Nigerian athlete, Sade Olatoye failed to qualify for the final in the Women’s hammer throw, failing to qualify for the final after recording a best throw of 68.82m, but she fell short of the qualification mark.

According to the competition format, the top two athletes from each of the three semi-final heats will qualify for the final, along with the next two fastest runners across all heats.

Amusan, has been drawn in Semifinal Heat 2 on Tuesday with Nadine Visser (Netherlands), Amoi Brown (Jamaica), Alaysha Johnson (United States), Pia Skrzyszowska (Poland), Hitomi Nakajima (Japan), Elena Carraro (Italy), and Saara Keskitalo (Finland) battling for a place in the finals.
