Two persons have died in a road crash at Ogbere Junction along the Ogbere–J4 corridor in Ogun State, barely four days after another fatal accident claimed 10 lives at Sapade Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, confirmed the latest crash in a statement issued on Thursday by its Public Education Officer, Superintendent Route Commander Afolabi Odunsi.
According to the statement, the accident occurred at about 5:10 a.m. and involved a white Mack truck with registration number ABC660XC and an orange Peugeot J5 bus with an unknown registration number.
Odunsi said four adult males were involved in the crash, with two persons confirmed dead while the remaining two escaped unhurt.
He attributed the crash to route violation and speed violation, noting that the impact of the collision caused the Peugeot J5 bus to catch fire, leaving its front section completely burnt.
He added that FRSC rescue personnel arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving the distress call and immediately diverted traffic to an alternative carriageway to ease vehicular movement while the wreckage was cleared.

“The remains of the deceased victims were evacuated by the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Ogbere Division, and deposited at the mortuary,” the statement said.
The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, commiserated with the families of the deceased and urged motorists to obey traffic regulations at all times, warning against speeding and route violations, especially during periods of poor visibility and on wet road surfaces.
The latest tragedy comes days after another fatal road traffic crash occurred at Sapade Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at about 8:05 p.m. on Sunday.
The FRSC said the accident involved a white Sinotruk Dangote truck and a white Toyota Hiace bus carrying 18 occupants.
According to FRSC, 10 people, comprising nine adult males and one male child, lost their lives, while six others sustained varying degrees of injuries. Two adult males escaped unhurt.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the crash resulted from speed violation, wrongful overtaking and dangerous driving after the truck driver reportedly reversed on the highway upon missing his route. The approaching bus, travelling at high speed, was unable to avoid the truck and rammed into it.
The injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, for treatment, while the deceased were deposited at FOS Mortuary, Ipara. Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Ishara Division, took custody of the crashed vehicles after the accident scene was cleared.
