‘6Yrs Single Term Will Rob Igbo Of 2023 Presidency’

Ambassador Chidike Ukauwa, a 2019 gubernatorial aspirant in Abia State, has warned against Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s proposed six-year single term for a Nigerian president.

Ohanaeze, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, had equally proposed a six-year single term for five vice presidential seats in five geopolitical zones, saying a sixth geopolitical zone in the country will host the president at every given tenure.

But reacting in a statement on Tuesday to the group’s proposal, Ukauwa slammed Ohanaeze’s meeting in Awka, Anambra state, on Monday, for taking a step capable of robbing the Igbo ethnic extraction of their turn to clinch the presidency in 2023.

The presidential aspirant noted that it would be unwise of the Igbo group, knowing that the North, South West and South-South had completed their two tenures, to deny the South East their turn in 2023.

“It would amount to cheat, if the people of South East zone are denied the presidency and not given the opportunity to produce Nigerian president that will serve for eight years,’’ Ukauwa told reporters in Umuahia.

“What we want is Nigerian president of Igbo extraction in 2023 and creation of additional states in South East. So, the single term of six years proposed by Ohanaeze Ndigbo would not bring the needed development in the country”.
