The Abia State Electricity Regulatory Authority (ASERA) has issued an interim licence to New Era Electricity Distribution Company Limited.
The licence issuance ceremony took place at ASERA office in Umuahia, Abia State, where the Chairman/CEO, ASERA, Emeka Onyegbule, presented the licence to the Managing Director, (New Era), Engr. Vincent Ekwekwu.
Emeka, while handing over the licenses, said the Abia government has commenced the protection of customers from unfair practices and dispute resolution, advising the licensed company to keep to the rules by being transparent, or be slammed with sanctions.
Also, the Executive Director, legal and regulation in ASERA, Iguwo Ukwu told the newly licensed power distribution and generation company that billing, metering and customer engagement must be fair, verifiable and must align with approved regulatory framework.
” You must demonstrate consumer protection and responsiveness,” Ukwu said.
Speaking also, the Abia State Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Ikechukwu Monday who was represented by the Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Energy, Kachu Etolue, challenged the company to deliver reliable electricity, and maintain public confidence.

Other power distribution and generation companies that received licenses were APL Electricity, and Geometric Power Aba.
