The senator representing Kano South district, Samaila Kawu, has urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council to empathise with citizens over the prevailing economic hardship during the campaign.
Kawu, who is also seeking re-election to the Kano South seat on the platform of the APC,
said the ruling party must reconnect with Nigerians at the grassroots and unite all stakeholders ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the party’s campaign strategy must be anchored on responsiveness, electoral integrity and effective communication of President Bola Tinubu’s policies.
In a statement he personally signed on Sunday, the lawmaker said, “We must approach our citizens with deep empathy, active listening, and genuine sensitivity to the economic hardships and socio-economic challenges currently affecting everyday families.”
Kawu insisted that the campaign must convince Nigerians that the APC and the President understand their difficulties and are committed to providing meaningful relief.

“Our campaign must demonstrate that we truly feel their pain, understand their daily struggles, and are sincerely committed to delivering meaningful reliefs,” he said.
He also warned that the widening gap between political leaders and the electorate could create misconceptions capable of undermining both the President and the party.
“A disconnect between leadership and the electorate creates misperceptions and misunderstandings that ultimately undermine both the President and the party,” he said.
Calling for sustained engagement with grassroots constituents, Senator Kawu stressed the need for the campaign to operate within the provisions of the Electoral Act and the Nigerian Constitution.
He further argued that compliance with the law was essential to maintaining legitimacy and public confidence in the electoral process.

Kawu charged party leaders and campaign officials to effectively communicate the President’s programmes and policies to Nigerians.
“We must leverage our collective expertise to clearly convey the President’s key policies, programmes, and strategic vision so the public fully recognises his commitment to national progress,” he said.
On party unity, the Kano lawmaker said victory in 2027 would depend largely on the ability of the APC to resolve internal disagreements and ensure that all stakeholders were carried along.
“Victory depends on complete solidarity. We must heal internal rifts, set aside differences, and ensure that all key stakeholders, party leaders, and members at every level are fully carried along as equal partners in this mission,” he said.
He added that his position as an APC senatorial candidate contesting on the same ballot with President Tinubu underscored the importance of the assignment.
“As an APC senatorial candidate running on the same ballot and alongside the President, representing the 16 local government areas of Kano South, I recognise the magnitude of the task before us,” he said.

The senator said the party must as of necessity, confront its strategic weaknesses, strengthen its grassroots structure and present a united front if it is to secure victory at the polls.
The presidential and National Assembly campaign ahead of the 2027 commenced on Wednesday, August 19 in line with the electoral timelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
