Bill Gates Donates US$1 Million Food, Farming Aid To 40, 000 Boko Haram Victims

American business mogul and philanthropist, Bill Gates, has donated US$1 million to provide food and farming support to 40,000 Boko Haram victims who are now returning to their communities in Borno State.

The aid comes as post conflict intervention to support the Borno State Government in rehabilitating the 40,000 victims.

Using the aid, 100 hectares of farm land will be funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in collaboration with the state Government.

In addition, 200 farm-families affected will be allocated tilled and fertile land measuring half hectare each to help them grow food crops.

The State Governor, Kashim Shettima, has already commenced the distribution of 25 kilogram bag of rice and 10 kilogram bag of beans to each of 1,100 households in Kaga local government area in the state.

In show of appreciation, Shettima said: “We are grateful to God for creating people like Mr Bill Gates and his dear wife, Melinda. These leading lights of philanthropy across the world have shown love to the good people of Borno State at a time we are on the ground and looking for any hand to hold in trying to lift ourselves up.”

Present to supervise the exercise on Sunday were officials of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs ‎ (UNOCHA).
