Boko Haram Ambushes Troops, Oil Workers In Borno

*Abducts UNIMAID Staff

A team of Nigerian Army troops escorting oil workers have been ambushed by Boko Haram militants in Borno State.

It was learnt that the attack occurred in the remote village of Eshu in Magumeri local government area at about 9:15 a.m on Tuesday.

According to a security source, the incident occurred after the terrorists opened fire on the convoy and burned the vehicles, kidnapping some security operatives and some members of the civilian JTF, numbering up to 30.

“It was bad news for us, as we lost some of our troops and many are still missing,” a security source said.

“They were ambushed by terrorists in Magumeri in the morning along with oil prospectors.”

Sources also said 10 academic and technical staff from the geology department of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) were among those said to have been abducted in the attack.
