Buhari Prays For Anthony Joshua From Daura, Says He’s Given Nigerians ‘Something To Cheer’

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed excitement at the victory of Nigerian-born British boxer, Anthony Joshua, over Kubrat Pulev during their fight on Saturday.

Joshua had viciously knocked out Pulev in the ninth round to defend his WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO world titles. The fight held at the SSE Arena, Wembley, on Saturday.

An excited Buhari took time out from his ongoing holiday in Daura, Katsina State, to congratulat Joshua for the victory.

He prayed for the heavyweight champion’s success ahead of his expected fight with fellow British boxer, Tyson Fury.

At statement by presidential aide, Femi Adesina, quoted Buhari as saying, “… by retaining his IBF, WBA, and WBO titles, Joshua has given boxing lovers round the world, and particularly in Nigeria, something to cheer.”

Adesina said Buhari, “recalls his meeting with the heavyweight champion in London earlier in the year, describing Anthony Joshua as a humble, well brought up young man, “who will still go places.”

The president further wished Joshua,” all the best in his dream fight against Tyson Fury, saying he has the prayers and goodwill of Nigerians going with him.”
