Delta Police Enforce Ban On Fireworks Ahead Of Yuletide

The Delta State Police Command has reiterated that the ban on the use and sale of fireworks, knockouts and other pyrotechnics remains in force as part of efforts to ensure a safe festive season.

The Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, stated that the ban would be strictly enforced to prevent criminals from exploiting the noise created by fireworks to commit offences.

In the statement issued on Thursday, the Command said the decision comes as part of ongoing efforts to prevent and reduce crime.

The police noted that experience showed that criminally minded persons can take advantage of this to unleash terror on law-abiding residents.

The Command advised parents and guardians to discourage their children from using fireworks during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The statement added, “Retailers are equally warned to withdraw from the sale of these products, as anyone found wanting will be arrested and prosecuted, and their goods impounded.”
