EFCC Calls Dorathy Bachor ‘Internet-Fueled Star’, Denies Seeing Her Naked

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reacted to reports that its operatives invaded the residence of former BBNaija housemate, Dorathy Bachor, at midnight.

While confirming that operatives from its Lagos State zonal office indeed broke into Bachor’s residence, the anti-corruption agency however said the operative did so with a search warrant.

The commission said it had received “verified intelligence” on activities of alleged internet fraudsters who share the same block of flats with the former reality TV star, hence the invasion of the building.

The EFFC said its operatives arrested 37 suspected internet fraudsters during the raid.

It also faulted the narrative put out by Bachor on the conduct of its operatives during the operation, saying the reality TV start “was not present during operation”

In a statement posted on its Facebook page on Monday, the EFCC described Bachor and those criticising the agency as “internet-fueled stars”.

THE WHISTLER earlier reported that Bachor said that her mom could have had “panic attack” when officials of the EFCC barged into her residence in the early hours of Monday.

She had criticised the operatives for not tendering apology to her family after they found out that they had barged into the wrong apartment.

“I feel like my head is about to explode. At 4:35am I heard a loud bang and voices, I rushed out to see five armed EFCC men in my living room and one of them saying ‘Oh na that Big brother girl be this’

“In my confused state, I was trying to understand why they broke down my door. Then one of them said they were looking for someone who ran into the estate and I should lock my door and stay indoors and not say a word.

“I’m shaking at this point and so confused because how exactly is this even okay.

“Still shaking I’m trying to close my already broken door when my sister screamed my name and I ran back upstairs to see my mum almost having a panic attack.

“I’m shaking at this point and so confused because at what point is this Okay.

“What is the need of being a citizen of this country when I can’t feel safe in my own house. I’ve never felt so helpless in my own life,” Bachor had said.

But responding, the EFCC explained that its operatives forced their way into the apartment because Bachor’s family refused to open the door when the operatives knocked.

It said, “The Commission can confirm that operatives from the Lagos Command of the Commission, acting on verified intelligence, executed a Search Warrant at a block of flats located in the Lekki area of Lagos on Monday, 23rd August, 2021 during which nine internet fraud suspects were arrested.

“Ms. Bachor’s apartment happened to be one of the flats in the building. EFCC operatives had knocked on her entrance door, identified themselves as being from the Commission on a mission to execute a Search Warrant. But they were refused entry, for several minutes by Bachor’s sister.

“Ms. Bachor was not present during operation and the anti- EFCC stories about her coming out half-naked among other fantastical details appear to have been invented to fit the pattern she and other internet-fueled stars so desperately want to push about the EFCC,” it stated.

The EFCC added that, “It is important to state that law abiding citizens have no reason to refuse the execution of a validly obtained Search Warrant.”
