Enugu Lawmaker Wants Researchers To Find Local Cure For COVID-19

Nigerian scientists have been challenged to find a cure for the Coronavirus currently ravaging the world.

A member of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon James Akadu, representing Igbo-Etiti West State Constituency, stated this while distributing some palliatives to
members of his constituency to cushion the effects of Covid-19.

Akadu, who chairs the Committee on Education, Science and Technology in the state Assembly, regretted that with the abundance of Nigerian orthodox health professionals as well as renowned herbal practitioners that no much effort was being made towards finding local solutions to the pandemic.

He said, “Nigeria is endowed with renowned orthodox and herbal medical practitioners. This is the time to explore what we have. The symptoms of this coronavirus are what we are abreast of, and are being treated by our herbal doctors as well as orthodox ones before this outbreak.

” We should go into research, and follow the global scientific evolution. If our local contents could treat such symptoms before now, who knows if they won’t have the breakthrough in these trying times if our research base is strengthened?”

Some of the beneficiaries commended the lawmaker for the palliatives, adding that members of the community were observing all the precautionary measures to avoid the spread.

A community leader in the area who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “To avoid the spread, we have strategically positioned some okada operators in our areas to ascertain the history of whoever is returning to our community from outside.

” Those that are suspected to be returning from questionable places will be exposed. They are either turned back or made to face the regulatory agencies to undergo necessary checks.”
