THE WHISTLER reports that the Enugu State House of Assembly had earlier given Gov Ugwuanyi an approval to make Nsukka an urban city. The roundabout is located at Opi junction, which is about 12km from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) campus.

Gov Ugwuanyi was accompanied during the tour by the state’s commissioner for works and infrastructure, Engr Greg Nnaji, and the airspace manager, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, Mr Iliya Yohana. Gov Ugwuanyi disclosed that he needed the approval of the two federal agencies for the commencement of the construction of the legacy roundabout.

According to him, the roundabout and tower would be a deserving identity of Nsukka, which is the second largest city in Enugu State. He regretted that the university community had been neglected for a long time, and reiterated his administration’s commitment towards its facelift.

In his words, “We called NAMA to approve this project because of the height of the tower to ensure that it won’t be an obstruction to air flights”, and commended stakeholders of Nsukka zone, especially the owners of the land where the roundabout and tower would be located, for their support. He also thanked the federal controller of works, ministry of works and housing, for granting approval for the commencement of the project.
