Fire Guts Building Housing Polaris Bank Branch On Lagos Island

A fire outbreak on Thursday engulfed a multi-storey building housing a Polaris Bank branch on Broad Street in Lagos Island, Lagos State.

Videos shared on social media showed thick plumes of smoke rising from the building as residents and business owners gathered around the area.

Emergency responders, including firefighters, were deployed to the scene and were seen battling the blaze to prevent it from spreading to neighbouring buildings.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no immediate information on possible casualties, while the cause of the fire had yet to be determined.

Efforts to obtain official details from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) were unsuccessful.

When contacted by THE WHISTLER, the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, requested that a text message be sent to him, noting that he was attending to an emergency situation.

He had yet to respond to the message as of the time this report was filed.
