A 45-year-old man, Micheal Aduragbemi, on Wednesday, appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly obtaining money by false pretences.
The defendant is standing trial on three counts of conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretences, and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant and others, now at large, allegedly committed the offences sometime in July and August 2025, at Magbon area of Imeke, Badagry.
He alleged that the defendant conspired with others now at large, to obtain money by false pretences from one Funke Adeyinka.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of three million naira from the complainant under the pretext of processing a Kuwait working visa for her, knowing same to be false.

The prosecution alleged that the defendant stole the said sum of money belonging to the complainant.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mr N.A. Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of one million naira with two sureties in like sum.
He held that one of the sureties must be a recognised community leader, while the other surety must provide evidence of tax payment, bank statements covering the last six months as well as proof of means.
The court adjourned the case until July 22, for hearing.
