Lagos Explosion: School Principal Dies After Saving Students From Inferno

The principal of the Bethlehem Girls College which collapsed after an explosion went off at Abule Ado in Lagos State, on Sunday, has reportedly died in a fire caused by the explosion.

Reverend Sister Henrietta Alokha was said to have saved all the students in her school who were trapped in the collapsed building but died in the process.

According to reports, over 60 students of the boarding school who sustained various degrees of injuries were rushed to the Nigerian Navy Hospital in Ojo Cantonment for medical attention.

The explosion was said to have resulted from “overcharged air resulting from gas leakages from activities” around a pipeline belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The incident had also reportedly affected two other schools around the area.

Reports quoted one Bro Vincent Iwueze, as saying: “We have just received the news of the demise of Rev. Sr Henrietta Alokha, Principal of Bethlehem High School Abule Ado involved in the petrol pipeline explosion that occurred earlier today. Late Rev. Sr Henrietta Alokha is the younger sister of Our Worthy Advocate WB Anslem Alokha.

“Late Rev. Sr. Henrietta Alokha rescued all the children under her care from the pipeline fire and could not make it herself.

“May her soul and the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God Rest In Peace, Amen.”
