Ghana Bans Travellers From Countries With 200 COVID-19 Cases

The Republic of Ghana has placed a temporary travel restriction on visitors from countries that have recorded at least 200 confirmed cases of the coronavirus infection

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the country’s Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrkuma; on Sunday.

“All travel to Ghana is strongly discouraged.

“Non-Ghanaian citizens who within the last 14 days have travelled to countries with more than 200 confirmed COVID-19 cases are barred from Ghana,” the statement read.

The government also urged Airlines that ply the country not to allow such persons to embark.

The statement further read that the “ban is however not applicable to Ghanaian citizens or foreigners with valid Ghanaian resident permits.”

But it states that upon entering the country, such people must undergo a mandatory 14 day self quarantine.

The statement also adds that any traveller who shows symptoms of Covid-19 during flight would be tested and quarantined upon reaching Ghana.

Ghana’s president Akufo Addo had also made a 100 million dollars commitment towards containing the menace.

The nation current has six confirmed cases of the novel virus.
