Nigerians on Twitter took Mr. Garba Shehu, the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the cleaners for defending the president’s obvious bias on ethnicity and religion.

Shehu had earlier tweeted that President Buhari has treated all Nigerians without bias for ethnicity or religion since he assumed office in May 2015.

Nigerians swiftly reacted to the tweet, with many strongly disagreeing with him, and others lashing him for making such statement without checking the facts.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had in June 2015 during a Q&A session with a journalist in the United States, said he will not treat people who didn’t vote for him equally with those who voted for him.

“Going by election results, constituencies that gave me 97% cannot in all honesty be treated, on some issues, with constituencies that gave me 5%,” the president said.

“The people who voted, and made their votes count, they must feel the government has appreciated the effort they put in putting the government in place. I think this is really fair,” Buhari added.

Since President Buhari took over from ex-president Goodluck Jonathan in May 2015, most of his appointments have come from the north, and this hasn’t gone down well with many Nigerians.
