Nigeria’s Economy Expands By 4.43% In Q2 — NBS

Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 4.43 per cent year-on-year in real terms in the second quarter of 2026, up from the 4.23 per cent recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The latest growth rate represents a 0.20 percentage-point increase from the same quarter last year, signalling a modest improvement in economic activity.

The NBS said the growth was supported by stronger performances in the agriculture and services sectors, although industrial growth slowed sharply during the period.

The agricultural sector grew by 4.39 per cent in Q2 2026, significantly higher than the 2.82 per cent recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025.

The statistics agency said, “Agriculture grew by 4.39 per cent, an improvement from the 2.82 per cent recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025.”

However, growth in the industry sector weakened considerably, falling to 3.96 per cent from 7.46 per cent in Q2 2025.

The NBS stated, “The growth of the industry sector stood at 3.96 per cent from 7.46 per cent recorded in the second quarter of 2025.”

The services sector remained the fastest-growing of the three major sectors, expanding by 4.60 per cent in Q2 2026, compared with 3.94 per cent in the corresponding quarter of 2025.
The NBS said, “The services sector recorded a growth of 4.60 per cent from 3.94 per cent in the same quarter of 2025.”
