Relief For UK-Based Nigerians As NIS Deploys Passport Intervention Team

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has deployed a Passport Intervention Team to the United Kingdom to address passport-related challenges faced by Nigerians in the country.

The intervention will take place in London, Manchester, Aberdeen and Cardiff between September 7 and 26, according to the Service.

In a statement signed by the NIS Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, on August 31, 2026, the Service said the deployment followed a directive by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and consultations with the Nigerian High Commission and representatives of Nigerian communities in the UK.

The exercise will hold in London and Manchester from September 7 to 19, while Nigerians in Aberdeen and Cardiff will have access to the team from September 21 to 26.

In London, the designated venue is Layali Lounge, Trent Park, Bramley Road, London N14 4UW, while the Manchester exercise will be held at Nigerian House, 23 Platt Lane, Manchester M14 5NE.

The Aberdeen exercise will take place at Hilton Convention Centre, 13 Smithfield Road, Aberdeen AB24 4NR, while the Cardiff exercise will be held at Sophia Gardens, Sophia Walk, Cardiff CF11 9XR.

The NIS said Nigerians in the listed locations and surrounding areas with pending passport applications or those seeking to obtain or renew passports could access the intervention.

Applicants are required to present a completed application form, payment slip as proof of payment, appointment slip and a self-addressed return envelope.

Those applying for passport renewal must also present their current passports, the Service said.

The NIS warned applicants against bringing cash, saying those who come with cash will not be attended to.

It also said applicants must apply and make payments through the NIS Passport Application Portal, while its digital passport application channels, including the Contactless Passport Application System, remain operational.

The Service said home delivery of passports is also available to applicants.
