NSCDC Operative’s ‘Accidental Discharge’ Kills Driver In Port Harcourt

Commercial bus drivers who ply the NTA-Choba route in Port Harcourt have blocked major roads in the area in protest against the killing of their colleague by an official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Wednesday morning.

THE WHISTLER learnt the driver, known as Biggie by his colleagues, was shot in the groin area.

According to an eyewitness, the official responsible for the alleged killing was attached to a team of the Rivers State Task Force on Illegal Street Trading and Motor Parks.

It is unclear if there was any altercation with members of the task force before the unfortunate incident.

But the development angered commercial drivers operating in the area, and they took to the streets in solidarity.

They blocked the NTA junction and major routes in the area, flogging any driver seen carrying passengers.

The protest has stalled vehicular movement as passengers in the area are left stranded.

Spokesman of the Rivers State Police Command, SP Nnamdi Omoni, when contacted by THE WHISTLER, confirmed the incident but said the killing was due to “accidental discharge.”

He added that the DPO in charge of the area had deployed officers to restore peace and sanity.
