The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has concluded a two-week pistol management training for 106 personnel.
The training, held at the command’s headquarters in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, is aimed at enhancing officers’ weapon handling skills, operational efficiency and professionalism in the protection of critical national assets, infrastructure, lives and property.
Addressing the participants at the end of the exercise, the FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, stressed the corps’ zero-tolerance policy on accidental discharge, describing it as a serious act of professional misconduct.
“In the NSCDC, we do not condone accidental discharge. It is the height of professional misconduct and we do not take such misconduct lightly,” he said, urging officers to remain accountable and uphold professionalism at all times.
Odumosu, according to the command’s spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, also charged personnel to conduct themselves responsibly in their interactions with members of the public, stressing that the Corps exists to protect citizens and national assets rather than intimidate the public.

“The public is not our enemy. You must observe the rules of engagement, act with restraint and remember that you are deployed to protect lives and infrastructure,” he said.
He further thanked the Commandant-General of the Corps for approving the training, noting that continuous capacity building remains critical to the NSCDC’s mandate of ensuring public safety and safeguarding critical national assets.
He urged the officers to remain disciplined, resilient and committed to national service, placing the interest of the Corps and the nation above personal considerations.
Ojobi noted that participants were trained in weapon safety, marksmanship, tactical firearm handling and the ethical use of force in line with global best practices and the Corps’ standard operating procedures.
