Ohaneze Set To Drag Buhari To Court Over Igbo Marginalization

The president general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, Tuesday in Enugu said the pan-Igbo socio-cultural body had concluded plans to drag the Buhari-led administration to court for marginalizing the Igbo race and the South-South part of the country in its appointments. Chief Nwodo stated this when he addressed the press after the national executive meeting of the organ¬isation.

“Ohanaeze had con¬stituted a committee of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) to initiate the legal ac¬tion against the fed¬eral government on the lopsided ap¬pointments against the South-East and South-South zones in the country. The presidential ap-pointments made since the current federal government was inaugurated showed a patently discrimina¬tory attitude towards the South East and South-South states as well as a complete violation of the Nige¬rian constitution on the federal character. We have copies of the appointments report¬ed so far in the media for you to peruse.

“We have instruct¬ed the legal adviser of Ohanaeze to write rel¬evant agencies of the federal government under the Freedom of Information Act to confirm or deny these statistics. Very disturbing is the brazen and il¬legal termination of the chief executive of PENCOM in com¬plete violation of the rules of her engage¬ment and the statute governing appoint¬ments into that organization simply be¬cause she is from the South East,” he stated.

The president general also bemoaned the bail conditions granted the lead¬er of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnam¬di Kanu. According to him, ‘his bail conditions were unprecedented in the judicial history of Nigeria’.
