The Anambra State Police Command raided a suspected cultists’ hideout along Nwaziki Street, Awada, in Idemili North Local Government Area, recovering two AK-47 magazines, 60 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, and other police-related items.

In a statement released on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said that the operation was carried out on June 20th, 2026, by operatives attached to the IGP Violent Crime Response Unit.

According to Ikenga, the police team stormed the location, known as a notorious black spot for cult-related activities. However, no suspect was arrested during the raid, as they flew upon sighting the officers.

Further investigations have commenced to identify and arrest suspects associated with the recovered arms and ammunition, and any criminal network linked to the hideout would also be apprehended.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the efforts of the operatives for their proactive, intelligence-led policing and reaffirmed the command’s aim to continue aggressive raids against criminal elements and their hideouts across the state.
