Professor Accused Of ‘Rigging’ 2019 Election Appears In Akwa Ibom Court

A professor at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom, Peter Ogban, has been arraigned before a High Court in Ikot Ekpene for alleged manipulation and falsification of election results during the 2019 general elections.

Ogban was arraigned before the said court by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday, reports Channels TV.

The professor had served as a collation/returning officer for the Akwa Ibom North-West National Assembly elections in 2019.

Ogban, who was arraigned before Justice Augustine Odokwo, allegedly committed the offence in Etim Ekpo and Oruk Anam Local Government Areas of the state.

His offences were punishable under Sections 1 and 123, Subsection 4 of the Electoral Act (as amended), said INEC.

Ogban was, however, granted bail in the sum of N300,000 and a surety in like sum, after an oral application made by his counsel during the first hearing of the suit.
