United Nigeria Withdraws Aircraft After Bird Strike At Lagos Airport

United Nigeria Airlines has taken one of its aircraft out of service after it was hit by a bird strike at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.

The airline disclosed the incident in a statement shared on its X page on Wednesday, noting that the incident involved an Embraer 190 aircraft operating Flight UN0523 on September 1, 2026.

According to the airline, a routine post-flight inspection revealed evidence of a bird strike on the aircraft’s right engine.

United Nigeria Airlines said the aircraft was immediately withdrawn from service in accordance with its safety procedures to allow for further inspection and necessary maintenance.

The airline stated that the development would affect its flight schedule and result in disruptions to some scheduled operations.

It apologised to affected passengers for the inconvenience and assured them that appropriate support would be provided.

Passengers requiring additional assistance were advised to contact the airline’s customer service team.

Bird strikes remain a recurring operational challenge for airlines operating in Nigeria.

United Nigeria Airlines has recorded several such incidents in 2026, some of which resulted in temporary grounding of aircraft and changes to flight schedules.
