Why Huge Crowd Ran After My Convoy In Abia – Orji Kalu

Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu, has vowed to help the All Progressives Congress (APC) take more states from opposition political parties in 2023.

Kalu, who presently represents Abia North in the Senate, spoke to journalists in Umuahia on Tuesday.

The two-term former Abia State governor was in the state for the requiem mass of his late friend, Chief Anthony Enukeme (Tonimas).

Kalu also said the reason his convoy was thronged by a crowd of youths in Aba, Abia State, on Monday, was because the people of the state still believed in him.

Kalu said regardless of the “newspaper propaganda” surrounding his corruption trial and conviction, “the people believed in what I had done for them.

“They had free education, their pensions, salaries and leave allowances were paid.

“The people believe that whoever I will bring will do a better job.

“When you see all those boys that are following me, they know that their future is guaranteed under the leadership of any political party I belong to,” he said.

Kalu also pledged to continue to use his position to advocate for peace and unity in the country.

“My duty is to continue preaching about the unity of the nation. My duty is to continue pleading with our people about religious tolerance and to continue preaching that Nigeria should be a strong one.”

According to the former governor, his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) would take over Abia and other states that were presently under the control of opposition political parties in 2023.

Kalu promised to help the APC develop a new strategy to penetrate the remaining South East states in 2023.

Meanwhile, the former governor is expected to face a fresh trial over allegations that he used his company to fleece N7.65 billion from the coffers of the Abia State Government during his tenure in office.

The Lagos Federal High Court had sentenced him to 12 years in jail in December, 2019.

He had spent about six months in Kuje Prison until the Supreme Court reversed the judgment and called for a retrial.
