Wike Has Surpassed My Expectation, Says Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday inaugurated the newly completed Transit Way N2 linking Abuja’s Central Business District (CBD) to Wuse District.
Tinubu declared that the era of abandoned projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) had ended under his administration.
The project, which features two bridges, is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve connectivity and enhance urban mobility between two of Abuja’s busiest districts.
Speaking at the ceremony, Tinubu, who was represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, described the road as a critical component of the FCT Master Plan and an important economic corridor that would boost commerce, reduce travel time and improve the quality of life for residents and businesses.
“It is with great pride and fulfilment that I stand before you today to commission the newly completed Transit Way N2 Corridor, directly linking the heart of the Central Business District to the bustling Wuse District, complete with two critical, standard-engineered bridges,” he said.

Tinubu recalled that when he appointed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, he gave him a clear mandate to restore Abuja’s master plan through timely execution of projects that would directly impact residents.
“When I gave the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, the mandate to oversee the Federal Capital Territory, my directive was single, clear and uncompromising: deliver tangible results to the people, eliminate delays and return Abuja to its master plan.
“I also stressed that the Renewed Hope Agenda must not just be a slogan written on billboards, but a living reality that our people can see, touch and drive upon. He has not failed me. He has continued to surpass my expectation,” the president stated.

The inauguration coincided with the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration and the 50th anniversary of the creation of the FCT.
Commending the FCT Administration for the quality and timely delivery of the project, Tinubu said the road represented more than physical infrastructure.
“You have contributed to something larger than a roadway, you have contributed to the future of our capital,” he said.
The president said commuters had for years endured severe traffic bottlenecks while travelling between Wuse and the Central Area, adding that the new corridor would reduce travel time and create new commercial opportunities.
“This link between these two very key districts is not just a road; it is an economic artery. By cutting down travel times and bridging these two major districts, we are opening up new commercial corridors.

“Indeed, this project symbolises progress and reflects my administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda—an agenda committed to building infrastructure that serves the people, unlocks economic potential and supports sustainable development,” he added.
Tinubu said the successful completion of the project showed what could be achieved when planning, leadership and execution aligned with purpose, promising that similar infrastructure projects would be replicated across the country.
He also declared that the FCT had entered a new era of project delivery and accountability.
“Abuja is no longer a city of abandoned projects. The era of contractors taking mobilisation money and disappearing into thin air is permanently over in the FCT.
“Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, if we sign a contract, we fund it, we monitor it and we commission it,” he stated.
The president commended the contractor for delivering the project within schedule and urged residents to protect public infrastructure by obeying traffic regulations and safeguarding government assets.
Earlier, Wike disclosed that the event marked the 23rd day of project commissioning by the administration, adding that the exercise would end on July 17 with a comprehensive review of achievements recorded under Tinubu’s leadership.
He appreciated the National Assembly for consistently supporting budgetary requests for the FCT, describing the legislature’s cooperation as key to the administration’s infrastructure drive.
Wike said several achievements of the Tinubu administration had not received adequate public attention, stressing that Nigerians deserved to know the extent of the government’s accomplishments.
The minister recalled expressing dissatisfaction during an inspection visit on May 7 after observing slow progress on the project.
However, Wike said a subsequent inspection on May 29 showed significant improvement, with the bridge and other critical components nearing completion.
“I want to commend the company and its workers for their commitment, dedication and professionalism. They have demonstrated their competence through the successful delivery of this project,” he said.
He noted that the contractor had previously handled other major road projects in the FCT, expressing confidence in its capacity to continue delivering quality infrastructure.
The minister also credited Tinubu’s policy reforms for accelerating infrastructure development in Abuja, particularly the decision to remove the FCT Administration from the Treasury Single Account (TSA).
According to him, the reform gave the administration greater financial flexibility by allowing it to access commercial financing backed by internally generated revenue.
“Mr. President made it clear that he did not want excuses. He wanted results. He understood that if the FCT remained under the TSA, it would be difficult to access the funding needed to execute major projects.
“Today, because of the reforms introduced by Mr. President, we are able to approach commercial banks, leverage our internally generated revenue and access funds needed to execute critical infrastructure projects. That is why we are seeing results today,” Wike said.
He added that the pace of development in Abuja reflected purposeful leadership committed to delivering measurable benefits to citizens.
The Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the Transit Way N2 as a strategic investment in connectivity, economic growth and urban efficiency.
She said the completion of the project represented another fulfilled promise by the FCT Administration to build a modern, functional and inclusive capital city.
“Today, we celebrate not merely the completion of a road, but the fulfilment of a promise, the triumph of vision and another shining milestone in the remarkable transformation of our nation’s capital,” Mahmoud said.
She explained that the corridor would serve as a major transportation lifeline linking the Central Business District and Wuse District while improving accessibility, reducing travel time, supporting commercial activities and easing daily movement for thousands of commuters across Abuja.
