296 Of 305 Arrested Drivers Failed Psychological Test – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, says 296 motorists arrested for life-threatening traffic offences failed the psychological test administered on them.

Speaking at a one-day national workshop organised by the FRSC for driving school operators in Abuja on Thursday, Corps Marshal Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, said a total of 305 drivers were arrested by the Corps since the launch of its Operation Cobra on July 1.

While reiterating the FRSC’s commitment to subject traffic offenders to psychological test, the Corps Marshall noted that the arrested motorists willfully violated road regulations.

According to him, the actions of such violators was a deviation from the true nature of Nigerians as a “cultured, disciplined and enterprising people who have faith in life and those of others”.

Operation Cobra is a new road safety enforcement policy of the FRSC designed to subject violators of certain traffic offences to mental stability evaluation.

The offences are the use of phone while driving, route violation, traffic light violation, dangerous driving and overloading.

Oyeyemi said the new policy was in response to rising incidence of the identified offences.

The Corps Marshall is of the view that investigating the mental stability of violators would help to check the trend.
