Adeboye To FG: Restructure Nigeria Now Or We Break Up

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has become the latest prominent Nigerian to demand restructuring of the country.

Adeboye warned that failure to immediately restructure Nigeria would lead to inescapable break up of the country.

The cleric said a prophet was not needed to foretell that the country would disintegrate if the federal government should fail to restructure it.

“Why can’t we have a system of government that will create what I will call the United States of Nigeria? Let me explain. We all know that we must restructure. It is either we restructure or we break, you don’t have to be a prophet to know that one. That is certain – restructure or we break up,” Punch quoted Adeboye to have said at a symposium organised by RCCG and the Nehemiah Leadership Institute to mark Nigeria’s 60th independence anniversary.

“Now, we don’t want to break up, God forbid. In restructuring, why don’t we have a Nigerian kind of democracy? At the federal level, why don’t we have a President and a Prime Minister?” the RCCG General Overseer said on Saturday.

Adeboye also added that the place of traditional rulers must be re-evaluated as they are “the actual landlords” that “control the respect of their people”.

Meanwhile, the cleric’s warning came amidst the clamour for Biafra and Oduduwa Republics by the Igbo and Yoruba secessionists, respectively.
