Appeal Court Ruling On Taraba Guber Gives Hope – PDP Govs

The Peoples Democratic Governors Forum has hailed the Court of Appeal decision setting aside the judgment of the Taraba Election Tribunal and upholding the election of Governor Ishaku Darius as duly elected governor of Taraba State.

In a statement signed by Earl Osaro Onaiwu on Thursday in Abuja, the governors said that the judgment of the appellate court is a welcome relief from a trend that seemed targeted at elected officials of the PDP.

Onaiwu said that while it was still a long way to go for the judiciary to redeem itself and remain the bastion of democracy, “this judgment signposts a welcome development that the judiciary will not allow itself to be entrapped in the vicious grip of the APC to have a one-party state using the courts to get what it cannot achieve through the ballot box.”

According to the statement, “The PDP Governors Forum will continue to support the building of institutions to entrench the rule of law and promote civil liberties especially as regards judicial pronouncements.

“What the forum will resist is the stomping on judgments and ambushing of judges to tilt clear precepts in favour of the APC regime. This ruling has shown that the judiciary is attuned to the demands of transparency and non-political judgments and we hope this will continue.

“We commend Governor Darius on his landmark victory as we were never in doubt that he won the Taraba state election clearly. We urge him now to return to work with more vigour as the unnecessary irritant of the APC case is condemned to the waste bin of history.”
