BREAKING: Bill To Raise Qualification For President, Govs Scales First Reading

A bill seeking constitutional amendment to raise the minimum qualification for the positions of president and governors has passed for second reading at the Nigerian Senate.

The bill seeks to make Higher National Diploma or its equivalent as the minimum qualification for anyone vying for the aforementioned political offices.

If the bill scales through and gets presidential assent, the section of the constitution (Chapter VI, Part I, Section 131) which states that a person may be qualified for election as president if “They have been educated up to at least School Certificate level or its equivalent” would no longer be applicable.
