Iran Asks IMF For Loan To Fight Coronavirus

The Iranian government on Thursday asked for financial assistance from the International Monetary Fund to help it fight the global pandemic, Coronavirus(COVID19).

This funding request makes it the first from the country since 1962, indicating a period of 58 years.

“Our central bank requested access” to the IMF’s Rapid Financing Instrument, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Twitter, urging the fund’s board to respond to the request “responsibly.”

Recall that the Managing Director of the IMF Kristalina Georgieva had stated that countries affected by COVID19 will be supported via rapid financial Instrument.

According to statistic on Worldometer, Iran has recorded 10,075 cases of the virus, 429 deaths and 2,959 recovered cases.
