Coronavirus: Lagos Assembly Passes Bill To Jail Stay-At-Home Violators For 1 Month

Following the Coronavirus pandemic, the Lagos State House of Assembly has passed a bill that would ensure anyone found guilty of violating government’s stay-at-home or close down order is jailed for one month.

The bill also stated that the jail term could only be substituted with 100,000 naira fine or 3 months community service.

This was made known on Thursday the Lagos State House of Assembly’s Twitter handle.

“Where there is a violation of a close down or stay at home order, security Agencies shall have power to arrest without warrant and may detain any person who violates the close down or stay at home order for at least forty-eight (48) hours,” the bill added.

The bill also allows the governor to access 20 billion naira for the fight against covid-19, while declaring a state of emergency on the pandemic.

The bill also states that only essential services approved by the governor shall be operational in the state at the moment, among other things.

Lagos State currently has 44 cases of covid-19, according to NCDC.
