An Italian whose identity was withheld was said to have imported the virus into the country from Milan, Italy, on February 25, 2020.

The Italian was believed to have arrived into the country through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on February 25, 2020.

“He was confirmed by the Virology Laboratory of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, part of the Laboratory Network of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. The patient is clinically stable, with no serious symptoms, and is being managed at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, Lagos,” said Ehanire.

The minister urged members of the public not to panic, saying the NCDC had immediately activated its national emergency operations centre and would work closely with authorities in Lagos to stop the spread of the disease.
