Coronavirus: Woman Tests Positive In Togo

The number of African countries with confirmed Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases has hit seven as Togo recorded its first case on Friday.

Before Togo’s case, Nigeria, Egypt, Senegal, Algeria, South Africa, and Cameroon had confirmed cases of COVID-19 in recent weeks.

THE WHISTLER had earlier reported that Cameroon had also confirmed its first COVID-19 case on Friday.

Togo is a West African country bordered by Ghana to the west, Benin to the east and Burkina Faso to the north.

The COVID-19 case was confirmed in a 42-year-old female residing in Lome, the country’s capital, the Togolese government said in a statement on Friday.

The patient was said to have recently visited Germany, Turkey, France and Benin.

COVID-19, which first broke out in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, has infected over 100,000 people across 91 countries.

Globally, the virus has killed over 3,000 people.
