Cameroon Becomes Sixth African Country To Confirm Coronavirus

Cameroon’s health ministry has confirmed the first case of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country, making it the sixth country in Africa to be hit by the virus.

The country disclosed on Friday that a 58-year-old French citizen had tested positive for COVID-19.

The Central African country stated in a statement that the infected person had been quarantined in the country’s Central Hospital, adding that, “All measures have been taken by the government to contain potential risks of the virus spreading.”

South Africa had on Thursday reported its first case while Egypt, Nigeria, Senegal and Algeria, had reported theirs in previous weeks, making the total virus cases on the continent 29.

The total number of confirmed cases is currently about 97,850, while about 3,390 people have died from the virus, with most of the deaths from China, Italy and Iran which recorded 3,042, 148 and 108 deaths respectively.

Meanwhile, Africa has not recorded a death case from the outbreak of coronavirus which was first diagnosed in December 2019, in Wuhan province of China.
