Court Grants Abba Moro Bail On Self-Recognition

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted the former Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, bail on self-recognition.

The presiding judge, Justice A.I Chik, who delivered the judgement, noted that Moro has been a public servant without any record of criminality and will not jump bail.

“I agree with the defendant that as a former minister and a responsible and senior citizen of Nigeria, he will not jump bail or escape justice and will present himself at all times for trial,” Justice Chikere said.

The court also granted Moro’s co-accused-Anastasia Daniel Nwobia and F. O Alayebami, bail in the sum of N100 million each with one surety each in like sum. She thereafter fixed April 27th for commencement of trial.

Recall that the court had granted the second accused person an administrative bail following request that she was a breast feeding mother.

Moro and the three others are standing trial for an 11-count charge bordering on abuse of procurement process and diversion of public funds including N676 million they illegally collected from immigration job applicants.

The tragic Immigration recruitment scam in 2014 had led to the death of over 20 applicants.
